Gabriela S. Diogo is a Junior Investigator at 3B’s Research Group. Her research focuses on biological and bioinspired materials, specifically derived from marine by-products, particularly marine collagen, for the development of 3D structures for tissue engineering (TE) and Regenerative Medicine applications.

Background

Gabriela has a post-doc research position in 3B's Research Group. In 2013, she obtained her MSc in Biomedical Sciences from Universidade da Beira Interior, where she started her pioneer work in the biomaterials field with a project entitled "Manufacture of ß-TCP/alginate scaffolds through a Fab@home model for application in bone tissue engineering. After that, she moved to 3B's Research Group to work with marine biomaterials envisioning applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine approaches. In 2014, she was selected to participate in COHITEC as a member of a competitor team. The work developed by Gabriela in the recent past was mainly, but not only, focused on the overall work enrolled in its PhD, concluded in October 2020, that shed light on the processing of marine origin collagens for different end-uses. During this journey, she mainly worked with composite materials, including blends of marine collagen and calcium phosphate by freeze-dry and 3D printing/bioprinting techniques. She collaborated with partners from different Universities, including the Universities of Vigo and Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and the Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil. In 2018, she won the IACOBUS program - papers with the University of Vigo. In 2019 Gabriela was selected to participate in the international BlueBioValue acceleration program (Oceano Azul and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundations), dedicated to bringing ocean-based, sustainable solutions to a new, blue bioeconomy. Currently, she is author of 15 original and peer-reviewed research publications, 4 book chapters, 2 conference-abstracts, 3 oral presentation in two of the most important conferences in the field, TERMIS-EU'19 and ESB'18 and many posters in national and international conferences, being selected to present one of the best posters in a rapid-fire presentation (TERMIS-EU'18).Her work has been cited 363 times according to Google Scholar ( 271 in Scopus), and she has an h-index of 8 (8 in Scopus).
