Starch-based blends in Tissue Engineering

abstract

As the world's second most abundant biopolymer, and being relatively inexpensive to attain, starch serves as food, feed and renewable resource for bioenergy production and other industrial applications. The rising development of processing techniques and starch's broadly tailorable properties caught the attention of researchers for its application in the biomedical field, particularly in bone, cartilage, and osteochondral tissue engineering. This chapter will focus on the research and development of starch-based polymeric blends envisioning applications in the Tissue Engineering (TE) field.
