This International College (https://fellowsbse.org/) established the honorary status of “Fellow, Biomaterials Science and Engineering” (FBSE) in April 1992. Fellows are recognized for a status of excellent professional standing and high achievements in the field of Biomaterials Science and Engineering. This is the highest honor the global biomaterials community can bestow on outstanding scientists. Miguel Oliveira, at the age of 45, is one of the youngest researchers in the field to be distinguished and is now joining a group of less that 500 of the most respected biomaterials scientists world-wide. Nominations for becoming FBSE are made by each individual society member of IUSBSE and are caped at a maximum of 10% of their members.
The induction ceremony will be conducted by Prof. Joachim Kohn, President of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE) and Prof. Rui L. Reis, Chair of the International College of Fellows of Biomaterials Science and Engineering, and it will take place at Daegu in South Korea at the World Biomaterials Conference (https://wbc2024.com/), in May 2024.
