J. Miguel Oliveira e Joana Silva-Correia, researchers at 3B's Research Group, member of ICVS/3B's Associate Laboratory, under the supervision of Prof. Rui L. Reis, were recentlly awarded the Full Paper Award 2013 by EuroSpine - the Spine Society of Europe (http://www.eurospine.org/eurospine-the-spinesociety-of-europe.htm), for their scientific work done in the field of researh on the regeneration of the invertebral disk.

The “EuroSpine 2013 - Best Full Paper Award” intends to distinguish the scientific work more relevante in this field published during the year of 2013.
This work was developed in collaboration with Sandra Reitmaier, researcher from University of Ulm-Germany, and other european partners on the scope of the project DiscRegeneration (NMP3-LA-2008-213904) financed by the European Commission and consisted on the evaluation of the biological performance  of several biomaterials developed by the portuguese researchers. This study is the conclusion of 4 years of pre-clinical research and opens new possibiloities in the treatment of several pathologies of the spine, such as discal hernia or other degenerative changes of the intervetebral disk. The materials developed in 3B's Research Group were also tested in human corpses in Italy with excelent results.
